Dealing with Self Doubt

Dealing with Self Doubt

I honestly don’t think it is possible to be an artist or business owner without facing self-doubt from time to time. I know I do! Even when things are going well, I sometimes have “what if…” thoughts creep in. These are my favorite things to do when I feel this way to keep me motivated and inspired.

  1. Listen to Roxy Talks Manifestation Podcast

This is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to all of the time, but ESPECIALLY when I need a little push to get back on a positive wavelength. Roxy Talks has episodes that range from Abundance Mindset to Self-Love Affirmations to Confidence and Manifestation. I leave listening to each episode feeling like I’m back to conquering the world. (Or at least the day!)

  1. Listen to a self-help or business book on Libby

If I am having one of those days where I’m feeling easily distractable and I cannot get into my work, putting on an audio book is a must to regaining focus. I love having motivational words as background noise as I work. Libby is the best app because it’s free and has a ton of amazing books available. Some books I have listened to recently are: “101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think,” “Profit First,” “Think Again,” “Badass Habits,” and “Humor, Seriously.”

  1. Move my body to get out of my head

Nothing solves mental ickiness like a bike ride, run, dance session, etc. It’s super difficult to think negatively about yourself as you’re working out. Plus, it reconnects you with your body which for me brings about a feeling of gratitude to the Universe/God that I get to exist.

  1. Journal

Journaling might be my favorite thing to do when I’m feeling stuck or down. I love writing out all of the feelings in my head onto paper. Once I can see and read them on paper, I feel like they don’t belong to me anymore. Or I will sit and write about all of the goals I have for myself in the present tense. For example, “I am so excited I received this amazing opportunity to create the next presidential portrait and that I am being recognized globally for my artistic skills.” Whatever it may be!

  1. Listen to “How I Built This” Podcast

Each podcast episode is insight into a real-life business owners come-up story. They talk about their failures, their breakthroughs, and talk about what moves they made to get them to where they are today. I love it! It’s impossible not to feel inspired and motivated after hearing some of the incredible stories on there.

Doubting yourself is an inevitable feeling that surfaces when you’re outside of your comfort zone or going after a career you truly care about. Even your biggest idols feel it! But someone out there is living your dream life with your dream job, so why can’t it be you? I think it can be! Surround yourself with at least a few people who think so too, and you’ll start to believe it. <3
